Project Overview

This project was a comprehensive pool design consultation for a young tech couple living in a modern villa at Cyberia Smarthomes, Cyberjaya. The clients wanted to transform their compact backyard into a resort-style retreat, but were unsure which pool style would best suit their space constraints and aesthetic preferences. We delivered 3 distinct design concepts with full 3D renders, allowing the clients to visualise each option before committing to construction.

The Problem

The clients had a compact backyard measuring approximately 8m x 6m -- a common challenge in modern housing developments like Cyberia. They had visited several resort pools during holidays and wanted to recreate that resort ambiance at home, but were concerned that their limited space would result in a pool that felt cramped or uninspiring. Previous consultations with other contractors had produced only basic rectangular pool proposals with no visualisation, leaving the clients unable to commit to any design.

Additionally, the couple wanted features like an integrated jacuzzi and natural landscaping, but needed expert guidance on how to incorporate these elements without overwhelming their compact outdoor area.

Our Approach

We started with an in-depth lifestyle consultation to understand how the clients intended to use the pool -- daily exercise, weekend entertaining, or pure relaxation. We then conducted a precise site survey with measurements and assessed factors like sun exposure, existing drainage, proximity to the house, and the view angles from their living room and master bedroom (both of which overlooked the backyard).

Based on this information, we developed 3 distinct design concepts, each with a different personality, to give the clients meaningful choice rather than variations of the same idea.

The Process

1

Site Survey & Lifestyle Consultation

Conducted a detailed site measurement and assessment. Discussed the clients' lifestyle, budget range, preferred aesthetics, and must-have features. Photographed the backyard from all angles including the interior view points to ensure the pool design would look stunning from inside the home as well.

2

Concept Development

Created 3 unique design concepts: (1) Modern Geometric -- clean lines, raised walls, and a waterfall feature; (2) Tropical Lagoon -- freeform shape with natural stone coping, integrated jacuzzi, and lush tropical landscaping; (3) Minimalist Plunge -- a deep, compact plunge pool with bench seating and a zen garden surround.

3

3D Visualisation & Presentation

Produced photorealistic 3D renders for all 3 concepts, showing daytime and evening views. Each render included the pool, surrounding landscaping, lighting design, and furniture placement. Presented all options with detailed material specifications and estimated construction costs for each.

4

Design Refinement & Approval

The clients chose the Tropical Lagoon concept. We refined the design with minor adjustments -- relocating the jacuzzi entry point for better flow and adding a shallow wading shelf. The final design was approved on the first revision, complete with a full landscaping plan, material schedule, and construction timeline.

Before & After

Before

A bare, underutilised compact backyard with basic grass and no landscaping. The clients had no clear vision for the space and were overwhelmed by the options. Previous consultations had produced only generic rectangular pool proposals with no visualisation or creative design input.

After

A fully designed tropical lagoon-style pool with photorealistic 3D renders showing exactly how the finished space will look. The design includes a freeform pool shape, natural stone coping, integrated jacuzzi, shallow wading shelf, lush landscaping plan, LED lighting scheme, and complete material specifications -- all ready for construction.

Tips for Pool Design Projects

  • Always invest in a proper design consultation before construction. A well-planned pool design saves money by avoiding costly changes during the build phase.
  • Request 3D renders from your pool designer -- they are invaluable for visualising scale, proportions, and how the pool integrates with your existing home and garden.
  • Consider how you will view the pool from inside your home. Many homeowners overlook the indoor sightlines, which are the views you will enjoy most often.
  • For compact backyards, freeform pool shapes often feel more spacious than rectangular designs because the organic curves create visual interest and soften the boundaries.
  • Include a landscaping plan as part of your pool design. The surrounding plants, stone coping, and lighting contribute as much to the final result as the pool itself.
