Project Overview

This project involved the complete design and construction of a luxury infinity edge swimming pool for a 3-storey hilltop bungalow in the prestigious Bukit Bandaraya neighbourhood of Bangsar. The client envisioned a resort-calibre pool that would take full advantage of the property's elevated position, with a vanishing edge that visually merges the pool water with the Kuala Lumpur skyline beyond.

From initial concept through to final handover, the project demanded precision engineering, premium materials, and meticulous attention to detail across a 10-week build timeline.

The Problem

The client had a large, underutilised sloped garden at the rear of their hilltop bungalow. Despite having one of the most spectacular views of the KL skyline in the entire Bangsar area, the steep terrain made the garden impractical and largely inaccessible. The homeowner wanted to transform this wasted space into a luxury infinity pool, but the challenging hillside gradient presented significant structural and engineering obstacles.

Previous contractors had declined the project citing the complexity of building an infinity edge on a steep slope, the need for extensive retaining structures, and concerns about soil stability on the hillside.

Our Approach

We began with a comprehensive site survey including soil analysis, topographical mapping, and structural feasibility assessment. Our team collaborated closely with a licensed structural engineer to develop a custom foundation design that accounted for the hillside gradient, soil composition, and the additional hydraulic loads of the infinity edge overflow system.

We produced detailed 3D renderings and engineering drawings for the client's approval before breaking ground, ensuring every element -- from the vanishing edge cantilever to the glass mosaic tile layout and LED lighting positions -- was planned meticulously.

The Process

1

Site Preparation & Excavation

Conducted soil testing and installed reinforced retaining structures for the hillside. Excavated the pool shell area on the slope and laid the steel reinforcement framework with extra structural support for the infinity edge cantilever section.

2

Reinforced Concrete Shell & Plumbing

Poured reinforced concrete shell with waterproof admixture, engineered to withstand the hydraulic pressure of the vanishing edge. Installed the complete plumbing system including the infinity edge balance tank, overflow channels, and dual return lines. Laid all electrical conduits for LED lighting and pump connections.

3

Waterproofing & Glass Mosaic Tiling

Applied a multi-layer waterproof membrane system across the entire shell. Installed premium imported glass mosaic tiles in a custom gradient pattern from deep ocean blue to turquoise. Grouted with epoxy-based waterproof grout for long-term durability and a flawless finish.

4

Equipment Installation & Commissioning

Installed variable-speed pump, sand filter, salt chlorinator, and underwater RGB LED lighting system. Calibrated the infinity edge water level to create the perfect vanishing effect against the skyline. Tested all systems, balanced water chemistry, and handed over with a full operational manual.

Before & After

Before

An underutilised sloped garden at the rear of the bungalow. Overgrown vegetation with no usable outdoor living space. The stunning KL skyline view was completely obscured and inaccessible. No outdoor entertainment or relaxation amenities despite the property's premium hilltop location.

After

A breathtaking 12m x 5m infinity pool with a vanishing edge that seamlessly merges with the KL skyline. Premium glass mosaic tiles shimmer in the sunlight. RGB LED mood lighting creates a dramatic atmosphere at night. A complete outdoor resort experience in the homeowner's own garden.

Tips for Infinity Pool Construction

  • Always conduct a thorough soil analysis before building on sloped terrain -- soil stability is critical for long-term structural integrity.
  • Invest in a properly sized balance tank for the infinity edge. An undersized tank will cause the overflow to look inconsistent and waste water.
  • Choose a variable-speed pump for energy efficiency -- infinity pools require continuous water circulation for the vanishing edge effect.
  • Glass mosaic tiles are a premium choice but require experienced installers. Ensure your contractor has a proven track record with this material.
  • Plan your LED lighting layout during the shell construction phase. Retrofitting underwater lights after tiling is costly and disruptive.
